USA Weightlifting Level 1 Coach
I was in my early 30s when I realized there was much more you can do with a barbell besides bench and deadlift. My first ever barbell squat and clean were performed to supplement distance running and increase vertical jump to stay competitive in pick-up basketball games. A few years later the CrossFit boom hit San Diego and I was neck deep in the Kool-Aid, trading in my running and basketball shoes for Metcons and lifters. There were two things I loved about CrossFit: the community and the barbell.
A couple of years into CrossFit, I injured myself attempting a PR clean. Was it heavy? Yes. Was the injury avoidable? Likely. At the time, the quality of weightlifting coaching from a CrossFit coach was nowhere near where it is now. In addition, the online resources were scarce. I had to go find a weightlifting gym and I had to learn how to weightlift correctly.
I love being able to apply what I’ve learned over the last 10+ years to both new and experienced lifters. I believe weightlifting is a sport for everyone and the community built around the barbell is like no other
